Concern for the health of our planet has grown significantly since Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962. In recent decades, awareness of environmental issues has intensified, particularly around pollution and the improper disposal of waste, chemicals, and synthetic materials. Regardless of broader environmental debates, it is clear that improper waste handling can harm ecosystems, wildlife, human health, and the atmosphere.
At Keystone Technology Management, we provide secure data destruction and responsible IT asset disposition to help organizations protect sensitive information while managing electronic equipment in an environmentally responsible manner. Safeguarding our clients from data breaches goes hand in hand with ensuring retired electronics are handled through certified recycling and destruction processes that minimize environmental impact.
To demonstrate our commitment to responsible electronics recycling and data security, our operations are certified to the R2v3 standard, meaning our processes and management system are independently audited to verify safe, secure, and environmentally responsible handling of electronic equipment and data-bearing devices.
What is R2v3?
In 2008, the non-profit organization, Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI), developed and released the original edition of the Responsible Recycling Standard (R2). R2 was the e-waste industry’s leading certification from the start. And, in 2013, SERI revised the initial version to meet the Essential Requirements of Due Process developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
R2v3, which is the most recent version of R2, is a voluntary certification for companies in the data destruction and e-waste industries (among many others) that promotes responsibility in sustainable electronic waste disposal practices. Additionally, this certification emphasizes the Hierarchy of Responsible Management: “Reuse, Recover, and Dispose.” The hierarchy helps keep Keystone employees on-track to resell and reuse as much of the used and off-network electronic equipment, materials, and components as possible prior to recovery. It also prohibits the disposal of any equipment in landfills.
Advantages to R2v3 Certification & Compliance
Because R2v3 certification and compliance are not compulsory for all electronics collectors, refurbishers, and recyclers, it is even more vital for our environment that as many companies as possible that deal with electronics and e-waste become certified.
As a leading certified e-waste recycling company, Keystone Technology Management takes pride in delivering secure data destruction services while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. If your organization is upgrading technology or needs data destruction for existing equipment, contact Keystone Technology Management today.
